Main propertiesSynthetic butadiene-methylstyrene rubber (SKMS) is a high-elastic polymer. It is produced through chemical synthesis: emulsion copolymerization of butadiene and alphamethylstyrene (styrene) at low temperature with an emulsifier being a mixture of rosin and synthetic fatty acids. As of their chemical composition synthetic butadiene-methylstyrene rubbers are copolymers of butadiene and methylstyrene.Butadiene-methylstyrene rubbers are typical rubbers of general application. This kind of rubbers has high physical-mechanical qualities. Distinctive feature of SKMS rubbers is their ability for large reversible deformations (so called high-elastic deformations) at usual and low temperatures. Rubbers based on butadiene-methylstyrene rubbers are extremely resistant to attrition (60 - 69 pm3/joule in standard mixtures), resistant to oxidation and mechanical exposure, of high endurance, water proofing and gas tightness, high elasticity and mechanical properties.SKMS rubbers are technologically compatible with other kinds of rubbers: natural, synthetic isoprene, butadiene, butyl rubbers, etc. In order to improve stickiness property of rubber mixtures the SKMS rubbers are combined with phenol-formaldehyde or inden-coumarone rubbers, and in order to increase resistance of vulcanizates to solvents, they are mixed with butadiene-nitrile, chloroprene or polysulfide rubbers. PurposeNomenclature of rubber goods made of synthetic rubbers exceeds 50 thousand items. The largest consumer of synthetic rubbers is tire industry (more than 70% of the total synthetic rubbers consumption).Synthetic butadiene methyl-styrene rubbers (SKMS) are used as the feedstock in the production of:o tires – protectors for tyres of passenger cars, trucks and agricultural vehicles;o industrial rubber articles - conveyor belts, hoses for different use, shapes, molded articles, etc.;o industrial asbestos goods - brake shoes, etc.; o footwear industry - soles, rubber galoshes and boots, sport wares, etc.;o production of cable rubbers and cable insulation materials, etc. Technical characteristics
